What are the requirements for continuing eligibility to maintain my scholarship?

Continuing Eligibility Requirements

After a South Dakota high school graduate becomes an SD Opportunity Scholarship recipient, he/she must meet a number of continuing eligibility requirements each semester.

  1. Maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale

  2. Meet Credit Thresholds

    1. 30 credits prior to the 3rd semester

    2. 60 credits prior to the 5th semester

    3. 90 credits prior to the 7th semester

  3. Maintain continuous enrollment

Any recipient that fails to meet requirement #1, will temporarily be ineligible to receive SDOS funding. Students may be eligible to reinstate funding for future semesters once they raise their cumulative grade point average to 3.0 or higher and completes an eligibility reinstatement form, assuming all other requirements of the program are met. For every semester the student falls below the minimum GPA requrement, they forfeit that semester's funding. If the student reinstates their SDOS scholarship funding and falls below the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement for a second time, the student is no longer eligible for the SDOS for all subsequent semesters per SDCL 13-55-34(1) and ARSD 24:40:13:09(3)

Any recipient that fails to meet requirements #2 or #3 will become permanently ineligible for further funding.
